Vipers SC vs Simba SC
Venue: St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende
Time: 7 PM
Uganda Premier League side Vipers SC haven’t scored a goal in six consecutive fixtures in all competitions something that has costed them points.
As they host Tanzanian side Simba SC in a CAF Champions League group stage game at St Mary’s Stadium, Kitende, the Venoms are seeking to find the back of the net as they play their first ever home game under the floodlights. The match kicks off at 7 PM.
“We are going through a tough spell, not scoring goals but that happens in football. Tomorrow, a lot of things can change because Simba is also not doing well. It is a case of one match at a time and we’re not thinking about the past. That’s history now,” Vipers skipper Milton Karisa told the club website.
Vipers are looking to pick their first ever three points of the group, and this encounter provides the perfect opportunity for the home team to garner maximum points against the Tanzanian powerhouses. They drew 0-0 against Horoya AC last time out and a suffered a 0-5 defeat in the hands of Raja Casablanca in the opener.
“I believe that the tactics the coach has given us will enable us give a good game, and hopefully we get the desired win at the end of the day,” Karisa added.
This will be the first meeting between the two sides with either teams possibly aiming to leave a mark in their maiden encounter.
The match will also see Simba head coach Roberto Oliveira alias Robertinho return to St Mary’s after he parted ways with Vipers a few months ago. However, Vipers tactician Beto Bianchi isn’t worried about Robertinho returning to familiar territory.
“I am not intimidated, I know him, and it will be a pleasure to meet him again,” Bianchi told the club website.
“I faced him in one of my previous assignments in Angola, and it’ll be a pleasure to meet him.”
Vipers are third in Group C with one point, but the Tanzanians are rock-bottom without a single point. Raja Casablanca and Horoya AC are top and second, respectively.
