Uganda men’s national cricket team, Cricket Cranes defended 125 runs to beat Kenya by 1 run to win the inaugural Continent Cup T20 Tournament during the series finals on Wednesday at Gymkhana Cricket Oval in Nairobi.
Dinesh Nakrani was named player of the match after he managed to help Cricket Cranes set a defendable score. He posted a team high 42 runs from 31 balls before he was caught by Rakep Patel following Gerard Mwendwa’s delivery. Nakrani also picked one wicket.
Pascal Murungi (31), Cyrus Kakuru (17) and skipper Brian Masaba (16) were the other Cricket Cranes players to post double figures while on the crease.
Cricket Cranes’ Riazat Ali Shah who was named series MVP picked two wickets in the finale just like Kenneth Waiswa. Henry Ssenyondo and Frank Nsubuga picked a wicket each.
Lawrence Mahatlane who is the Head Coach of Cricket Cranes says that he is impressed with the team work displayed by the team throughout the series.
“We have learnt that there are lots of characters in the group and we don’t just rely on two or three people, everybody has a major contribution to make and it’s about growing consistently,” Mahatlane noted adding that they are looking forward to the tournaments in the near future.
For Kenya’s innings, Collins Obuya led the chase with a game high 44 runs from 51 balls. He was however caught by Siraje Nsubuga following Kenneth Waiswa’s delivery.
Rakep Patel (22), Alex Obanda (21) and Nelson Odhiambo (17) were the other Kenyans to post double figures.
Gerard Mwendwa picked three wickets for the hosts while Rakep Patel and Vraj Patel picked two wickets each. Shem Ngoche and Lucas Oluoch had a wicket each.
