Uganda U18 Women’s football team have maintained their winning run at the CECAFA U18 Women’s Championship after they picked a second straight win on Thursday. The Ugandan side picked a 3-0 win over Zanzibar in a game played at Azam Complex.
The thrashing of Zanzibar comes just days after Uganda picked a narrow 1-0 win over Ethiopia in their opener.
Against Zanzibar, Brenda Munyana, Agnes Nabukenya and captain Phiona Nabulime scored a goal each to guide Uganda to victory.
The first half had limited scoring opportunities but the team improved a lot after recess after the coach making some changes.
Allen Nassazi, Patricia Naiga and Monica Nannono all came in after the break.
The breakthrough came in the 63rd minute with Munyana firing home from close range.
Two minutes later, Nabukenya doubled the lead before captain Nabulime put the icing on the cake with a strike from the spot.
Victory means Uganda has two wins in as many games with two games to play (against Burundi and Tanzania).
It should be noted that the Championship is played in a round robin format with five teams taking part namely Tanzania, Uganda, Zanzibar, Burundi and Ethiopia.
The team with most points at the end will emerge the Winners.
