Pius Oloka and Richard Sohera both managed half centuries as Jinja Senior Secondary School beat Busoga College Mwiri by 57 runs (148/5 against 91/10) in on of the games of the ongoing SkyView Boys Schools Cricket Week on Thursday.

Oloka managed 50 runs from 34 balls and also had five boundaries. He also picked three wickets and was later named player of the match.

“We had like 30 runs in the 9th over but as a batsman my role in the team is to score runs so I executed my shots and managed to get the 50 runs,” Oloka said adding that even when they were batting, he and his side were disciplined and that’s what made them standout.

Meanwhile, Sohera on the other hand managed 52 runs from 50 balls and had three boundaries. He was however run out by Edgar Mudoola.

Hassan Bagaga (10 runs) was the other Jinja SSS player to post double figures. Paul Mulongo (9 runs) was unbeaten on the crease.

For Mwiri innings, Conrad Lubwama led the way with a team high 18 runs before he fell to Peter Oloka’s ball. Donald Kyangungu had 17 runs before he was run out by Paul Mulongo. Edgar Mudoola (10 runs) was the other player with double figures, he was however caught by Peter Ocen following Cyrus Kunsa’s delivery.

Jinja SSS are now the only perfect team in Group A of the tournament after condemning Mwiri to their first loss. The former leads the eight-team table with 10 points from five games, two points ahead of their neighbors.

Meanwhile, Nyakasura School are unbeaten in Group B after six games and now have 12 points. Kololo Senior Secondary School are second with 10 points from six games.

The top two teams from each group after the group stage games will make it to the semifinals of the tournament and later the successful ones will make it to the final.

The Skyview Boys’ Schools Cricket Week, 2023 edition is currently underway in Jinja City. It features 16 secondary schools from across the country.
