Big League side Lugazi FC have unveiled defender Latif Kiyemba, who joins the side on a two-year contract, bringing a wealth of experience and a winning mentality to the club.
Kiyemba joins Lugazi FC from Gadaffi FC, adding valuable experience to the club’s defensive line. He arrives on a free transfer, having left the Soldier Boys at the end of the previous season.
Kiyemba was a top performer for Gadaffi FC in the Uganda Premier League in the second half of last season, helping the club to an 11th-place finish. He joined them in January and contributed five clean sheets in the seven games he played for them.
“It is a really special moment for me and at this stage of my career,” Kiyemba stated in his first interview with the club website. “Lugazi is a top side, and knowing the ambition behind the team, it was easy for me to make up my mind and settle for the club.”
“I am here to make history for the club and give the fans good moments that they will cherish. I have already seen the players, and it is a very good squad that is ready and hungry to compete,” he added.
“I am a dreamer and a believer, and I know we are going to be successful together. I want to be the first player to move to a top league abroad from the club, that will be my legacy here.”
“The fans should expect to see a hard worker, and someone who is going to leave it all on the field of play. I am ready to perform and compete with the boys, cannot wait.”
Before his stint with Gadaffi FC, Kiyemba had a remarkable journey with Kyetume FC, guiding them to promotion back to the Uganda Premier League in 2022.
Though the promotion did not last, this achievement demonstrated his leadership and dedication on and off the field.
Kiyemba’s football journey has seen him compete at various levels in Ugandan football.
He has previously represented Mbarara City in the Uganda Premier League and Lungujja Galaxy in the third division.
His presence, coupled with his extensive experience in both the Uganda Premier League and the FUFA Big League, is expected to bolster Lugazi’s squad and contribute to their quest for success.
