The second day of the amateur event of the 2023 Johnnie Walker Uganda Open Golf Championship ended with an impressive performance from Godfrey Nsubuga. After a strong start on the opening day, the handicap -2.5 golfer has stretched his lead following an outstanding performance on day two (Thursday).
Nsubuga has 10-under par 134 (65, 69) after two rounds and he is six strokes ahead of second placed Ibrahim Bagalana. The former was leading the latter by five strokes on day one and has now bettered his lead by one shot and his consistency had kept him ahead of the chasing pack of golfers. He has also shown admirable composure and control on the course and managed to hit some impressive shots.
Nsubuga who shot a gross score of 69 on day two had six birdies in his round, four in the front nine and two in back nine. He had birdies in holes 3, 5, 8, 9, 11 and 15. He had nine pars and the three bogeys.
2021 winner Joseph Cwinya-ai caps the podium after day two with level par 144. He is followed by fellow Ugandans who have dominated the top positions of the leaderboard.
The third day of the tournament promises to be an exciting one with several top golfers looking to close the gap on the current leader. However, Nsubuga looks more than up to the challenge and will be hoping to maintain his form and continue his good run.
All eyes will be on the final day of the tournament where the winner will be crowned and Nsubuga will be hoping to maintain his spot at the top of the leaderboard.
