The 2024 Entebbe Ladies Open golf tournament was launched on Wednesday, 28th February at Entebbe Club. The event, marking it’s 14th staging is slated for Thursday, 29th February to Saturday, 2nd March and is poised to be a captivating showcase of women’s golf prowess.
During the press launch at the club house, Entebbe Club Lady Captain Jovia Tugume told the media that the tournament is a now classified as a World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event for both the lady gross players and the men’s gross players hence giving the golfers the opportunity to earn ranking points and consequently know where they lie in the World Amateur Golf Ranking.
“That’s why we made the event to run for three days and not two days like in the past editions. I also believe that being a WAGR event, it will inspire the participants to work hard in order to get good points,” Tugume said adding that over 200 golfers will compete at the event in the different categories.
“We registered an overwhelming number of participants for both the main event and subsidiary event. Also, in the ladies main event we will have about 10 foreign lady golfers competing,” Tugume added.
The Ladies Group A category will be playing over three days, the Ladies Group B category will be playing over 2 days, the Men Gross Amateurs will be playing over 3 days and the Subsidiary category will play on the final day.
The event has been boosted by partners, that is; KCB Bank, Uganda Airlines, Crown Beverages Limited, Uganda Breweries Limited and MTN Uganda.

KCB Bank Marketing Executive, Zainab Kalyowa told media that their contribution to the Entebbe Ladies Open is UGX 8 Million. “KCB takes pride in partnering with this event because our contribution positions us as a socially responsible player in the banking sector,” she said.
Sylvia Kaggwa, Sales Manager Uganda Airlines revealed that they have been partnering with the Entebbe Ladies Open since 2020 and it has always been their privilege to be part of it. Winners will receive tickets to any destination that the airline operates in.
Jemimah Akatekit, Corporate Communications Manager, Crown Beverages noted that; “it is our first time to be part of this event and we are delighted to be on board . We have always been part of women’s golf in other clubs and I believe our experience here will be equally exciting. For us we shall be quenching all the golfers with our drinks especially with 7up that we launched recently.”
Meanwhile, Martha Babirye won’t be able to defend her title because she’s not in the country but the organizers expect fierce competition just like in the previous editions. Top lady golfers like 2022 winner Peace Kabasweka has already been training at the facility and she’s expected to put up a good show alongside other lady golfers.
The event is set to wind down in style on Saturday with a “Girls wanna have fun with class, glitz and glamour” themed 19th hole experience.
