The Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA) has wrapped up a six-day Capacity Building and Training program at Sebei College Tegeres, drawing 161 students and games teachers from districts including Kapchorwa, Kween, Bukwo, and Mbale.
The program, which started on January 12 focused on empowering participants in coaching, refereeing, and umpiring across four disciplines: football, netball, volleyball, and athletics.
Breakdown of Participants by Discipline:
Football Coaching: 41
Football Refereeing: 40
Netball Umpiring: 22
Volleyball Refereeing: 13
Athletics (Elementary): 45
The training culminated in a certificate-awarding ceremony, with participants urged to apply their newly acquired skills to foster sportsmanship and improve sports performance in the Sebei region.
Makwa Joseph, Chairperson of the Region Management Committee for Bugisu Sebei SESEMAT Organisation, was the chief guest at the closing ceremony. He encouraged participants to utilize their skills, stating, “Do not leave the skills you have been given here! Go out and make Sebei great.”
Sebei College Tegeres Headteacher, Limo Johnson, commended USSSA and the Ministry of Education and Sports for extending the program to Sebei. “This initiative will greatly improve our sports capabilities. We’ve been lacking specialists in various fields, but this training marks a new beginning,” he said.
The program is expected to ignite a spirit of sportsmanship while addressing gaps in technical expertise, ultimately boosting sports development in the Sebei region.
