In a major step toward the growth of American football in East Africa, Uganda is set to officially kick off its first-ever national flag football league on Saturday, July 12, 2025. The Uganda Flag Football League (UFFL) will launch its inaugural season with six teams competing for the national title over the course of an exciting 8-week tournament.

The newly formed league aims to promote athletic excellence while fostering community spirit and social inclusion. The format of the game—flag football—offers a fast-paced, non-contact alternative to traditional tackle football, emphasizing speed, strategy, and teamwork.

“This is a historic step forward for the sport in Uganda,” said Denis Ongodia, CEO of the Uganda Flag Football League. “Flag football is more than just a game—it’s an opportunity to empower youth, promote gender inclusion, and foster regional unity. We’re proud to launch a league that reflects those values.”

The initiative not only marks a significant development in Uganda’s sports landscape but also positions the country among the growing list of African nations embracing the globally rising sport. The UFFL hopes to use the platform to inspire a new generation of athletes, offering them pathways to both personal development and international exposure.

For more information on the league, schedules, and teams, fans and stakeholders are encouraged to visit the official website at www.uffluganda.org or contact the league via email at admin@affufootball.org.
