The Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) has officially released the categorisation of football academies following a comprehensive inspection process conducted earlier this year.
The categorisation covers academies that applied during both the initial and extended registration window, which closed on February 13, 2026. According to FUFA, the academies have been placed under five classifications: Category Two, Category Three, Schools of Football, Provisional Certificate, and Under Review.
This exercise follows FUFA’s decision to extend the registration deadline, allowing more academies time to meet the set requirements. After the deadline, a nationwide inspection was carried out, assessing key areas such as infrastructure, technical capacity, governance, and safeguarding standards.
An independent panel of experts was tasked with reviewing the inspection findings and grading the academies based on established criteria.
FUFA confirmed that certificates will be issued to academies that met the required standards, as a mark of their commitment to quality and professionalism in football development. Additionally, compliant academies have been recommended for licensing by the National Council of Sports.
The federation also announced that the next registration window for academies will open on July 1, 2026, as part of ongoing efforts to streamline and professionalise grassroots football structures across the country.
