A two-week outreach initiative by Cricket Without Boundaries (CWB) has brought the joy of cricket and life lessons to more than 10,000 children across eastern Uganda. The program combined sports coaching with social education, leaving a lasting impact on communities in Kumi, Bukedea, and Kapchorwa districts.
The CWB delegation, led by Mark Campbell and including Lara, Holly, Alice, Ali, Ken, and Jim, arrived in Uganda on March 1 via Entebbe International Airport, where they were welcomed by Cricket Uganda representative Jonathan Kiiza.
During their 14-day tour, the team partnered with local coaches Oparok and Arnold Tembo to host cricket clinics in schools, introducing children to the fundamentals of the sport while fostering discussions on gender equality, women empowerment, teamwork, and mutual respect. The sessions encouraged boys and girls to participate together, highlighting cricket as a unifying platform for opportunity and growth.
Each district visit concluded with lively cricket festivals, where students showcased newly learned skills in fun matches and demonstrations, reinforcing lessons on collaboration and leadership. For many children, it was their first experience handling a cricket bat or ball, making the event both educational and inspiring.
Following the outreach, the CWB team attended the ICC Under-19 Women’s Cricket World Cup Africa Division 2 Qualifier in Entebbe, interacting with international teams including Sierra Leone and Mozambique, and strengthening connections within Africa’s growing cricket community.
The tour concluded with a symbolic moment as Mark Campbell presented the Player of the Match award to Sierra Leone’s Thereza Tommy, showcasing the program’s dual focus on cricket development and community empowerment.
