Uganda Cricket is accelerating its long-term development agenda through enhanced support from the International Cricket Council (ICC) and a growing strategic partnership with the Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA), a collaboration expected to strengthen technical expertise, coaching development, governance structures, and international competitiveness.
The partnership reflects the ICC’s renewed focus on Associate Member development under the leadership of ICC Chairman Jay Shah, whose vision emphasizes stronger collaboration between established cricket nations and emerging cricket markets.
As one of Africa’s fastest-rising cricket nations, Uganda continues to position itself as a model Associate Member through strategic international partnerships designed to elevate standards both on and off the field.
Since taking office, Shah has consistently advocated for increased support and development opportunities for Associate Members, recognizing their vital role in expanding cricket’s global footprint.
His approach has centered on creating structured pathways for growth through technical collaboration, knowledge sharing, and institutional partnerships between Full Member and Associate cricket bodies.
For Uganda, this strategy has translated into greater engagement with established cricket institutions and increased access to expertise that can accelerate the sport’s development nationwide.
Over the past decade, Uganda has emerged as one of the most progressive Associate cricket nations in Africa, driven by strong governance, grassroots investment, coaching development, and improved international performances.
The country’s historic qualification for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup underscored the effectiveness of its long-term development strategy and enhanced its reputation within the global cricket community.
These achievements have made Uganda an attractive partner for international cricket organizations seeking to contribute to the growth of emerging cricket markets.
A key component of Uganda’s latest development strategy is its expanding relationship with the Mumbai Cricket Association, one of India’s most influential cricket institutions.
The partnership is expected to facilitate technical exchanges, coaching education, player development initiatives, and administrative capacity-building programs that will benefit Uganda Cricket at multiple levels.
Uganda Cricket Association (UCA) Chairman Jackson Kavuma credited both ICC leadership and longstanding relationships with MCA officials for helping establish and strengthen the collaboration.
“Jay Shah has been instrumental in supporting Associate Members including Uganda. As part of his efforts to strengthen support for Associates, he encouraged the Mumbai Cricket Association to play a more active role in this agenda,” Kavuma said.
“Uganda was fortunate to have already established strong relations with Mumbai, particularly through Ajinkya Naik, President of MCA, which made engagement much easier. My personal relationship with Naik also played a significant role in helping Uganda build and strengthen this partnership with Mumbai.”
Kavuma made the remarks following a recent visit to India, where he met Shah, India’s T20 World Cup-winning captain Suryakumar Yadav, attended Indian Premier League matches, and held discussions with potential strategic partners for Uganda Cricket.
The partnership is expected to deliver a range of development initiatives aimed at strengthening Uganda’s cricket ecosystem.
Among the anticipated areas of collaboration are coaching certification programs, technical exchange opportunities, player development pathways, and governance training for administrators.
Officials say the long-term objective is to establish sustainable systems that improve standards across all levels of the game while exposing Ugandan coaches, players, and administrators to international best practices.
Strong governance remains central to Uganda Cricket’s development agenda.
The association has prioritized transparency, institutional growth, and strategic planning as it seeks to build a sustainable structure capable of supporting future success.
International partnerships such as the MCA collaboration are expected to provide valuable learning opportunities and further strengthen administrative capacity, ensuring Uganda remains aligned with global standards in cricket management.
The Uganda Cricket–MCA partnership reflects the broader direction of Associate Member development under the ICC’s current leadership.
As Uganda continues investing in its structures, talent pathways, and international relationships, the country is positioning itself for greater competitiveness and long-term success within the global cricket landscape.
With growing support from the ICC and strategic collaborations with influential cricket institutions, Uganda Cricket appears poised to enter a new phase of growth, strengthening its status as one of the leading Associate nations in world cricket.
