Wanderers Cricket Club will bid farewell to one of its longest-serving and most dedicated players this weekend as Denis Arthur Musali plays the final league match of a remarkable 23-year career.
Musali will make his final appearance for Wanderers on Saturday when the club takes on St Johns Secondary School in the last Silver Category fixture of the 2026 Cricket Uganda Men’s 50-Over League at Lugogo Cricket Oval. Although the outcome of the match will not affect the final standings, it will mark the end of an extraordinary chapter in the history of one of Uganda’s oldest cricket clubs.
Having joined Wanderers in 2003, Musali has spent more than two decades representing the club through different eras, competitions and generations of players. His longevity and commitment have made him a respected figure within the Wanderers family and Uganda’s domestic cricket fraternity.
Over the course of 23 years, Musali has witnessed the evolution of the domestic game while remaining a constant presence for Wanderers. His retirement brings to a close a journey defined by loyalty, dedication and service to a single club—qualities that have become increasingly rare in modern sport.
Saturday’s fixture is expected to be an emotional occasion as teammates, opponents and cricket fans celebrate a player whose contribution extends far beyond performances on the field. For Wanderers, it is an opportunity to honour a servant of the club whose commitment has spanned more than two decades.
The match also concludes Wanderers’ 2026 campaign. The club heads into the encounter after a mixed season, recording two victories, three defeats and one no result from six matches. St Johns SS, meanwhile, have already been relegated after losing all six of their league fixtures.
While pride will be at stake on the field, much of the attention will be on Musali as he walks out in Wanderers colours for one final time.
His farewell comes as the Cricket Uganda Men’s 50-Over League reaches its conclusion, with the Bronze Category final between Centurion Cricket Club and Pak Shaheens Cricket Club scheduled for Sunday to determine the Division Three champions.
An official closing ceremony will follow the weekend’s fixtures, bringing the 2026 domestic season to an end. For Wanderers, however, the occasion will be remembered not only as the end of another campaign but as the day they said goodbye to one of the club’s most enduring servants.
