The Uganda Cranes will begin a two-match international friendly series against the Democratic Republic of Congo tomorrow, October 2, 2026, as preparations for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers continue.
Uganda and DR Congo will meet twice during the October international window, with the second encounter scheduled for October 5.
The friendlies come as the Cranes continue their preparations for the next phase of the AFCON 2027 qualifying campaign. Uganda are scheduled to face Botswana in back-to-back qualifiers during the November FIFA international window.
The technical team has named a 29-man squad for the two matches, featuring a mix of players from Uganda’s recent international assignments and new additions.
Goalkeepers Hannington Ssebwalunyo, David Lukwago, Kingdom Osayi and Akpan Udoh are included in the squad.
The defensive options are Rogers Torach, Kenneth Semakula, Diaby Souleymane, Toby Sibbick, Hilary Mukundane, Herbert Achayi, Geofrey Lubanga Kene, Gavin Kizito Mugweri and Jonathan Odongo.
In midfield, Uganda have Baba Alhassan, Joseph Seremba, Gaucho Debohi Dieudonne, Sadam Masereka, Allan Okello, Allan Oyirwoth, Travis Mutyaba and Abdoulaye Sissako.
The forwards are Steven Mukwala, Kelvin Boateng, Denis Omedi, James Bogere, Toto Majub Brian, Richard Basangwa, Frank Ssebufu and Arnold Vula.
Captain Denis Onyango, Rogers Mato, Abdu Aziizi Kayondo, Nathan Asiimwe and Noble Okello are among the players who were not included following a decision by the technical team. Toto Majub Brian and Sadam Masereka have been added after missing Uganda’s recent matches against Tunisia and Libya despite being called up.
With the first meeting against DR Congo set for October 2, the Cranes will have two opportunities in the space of four days to test themselves against their fellow African side before turning their attention to the November AFCON qualifiers.
The second friendly will be played on October 5.
