Alex Guma claimed the overall title at the second quarterly outing of the I&M Bank Serena 63 Golf Series held on October 3 at Lake Victoria Serena Golf Resort & Spa, Kigo. He posted a top six average of 39.6 points to emerge champion earning the winner’s trophy and a Callaway Elyte 3 Wood.
The Gorilla Walking Safaris Director, who plays off a Handicap 21, credited his success to consistent practice, made easier by his proximity to the Lake Victoria Serena course. “Despite a busy schedule, I always make time for the game,” said Guma.
Guma was closely followed by Maxie Muwonge and Matthew Nviiri, who both carded 39.3 points, with the former taking the runner-up position on countback. Muwonge received a Callaway Mack Daddy 52-degree wedge among other goodies, while Nviiri took home a Serena Carmel Jacket and Callaway Supersoft golf balls.
I&M Bank Chief Financial Officer Timothy Musiime finished third runner-up on 38.2 points, winning a Callaway Travel Kit Bag and 4.5m Ball Retriever, while former winner David Plenderleith emerged fourth runner-up with 37.8 points.
At the 19th hole experience, in remarks delivered on behalf of CEO Robin Bairstow by Timothy Musiime, I&M Bank reaffirmed its commitment to creating value beyond banking through experiences that bring clients, partners and friends together. Participation continues to grow, reflecting the strength of the golfing community and the appeal of the series.
Bairstow also appreciated golfers for supporting the upcoming Migingo Skirmishes, a regional fixture on the I&M Bank Katogo Golf Series calendar scheduled for October 31 at Limuru Country Club in Kenya. Following the inaugural edition at the same venue in 2024 and last year’s memorable Virunga Challenge in Kigali, the event has drawn many entries from Ugandan golfers, who are set to carry the country’s golfing spirit onto another regional stage.
Echoing the CEO’s sentiments, Annette Nakiyaga, I&M Bank Head of Marketing and Corporate Communications, said the Serena 63 Series provides an opportunity to deepen relationships with customers and partners while bringing the bank’s “On Your Side” promise to life.
“That is why we are proud to continue investing in experiences such as this, experiences that reflect our commitment to standing On Your Side, both on and off the course,” she said, while acknowledging series partners Serena Hotels, Kenya Airways and new partner MTN MoMo.
Meanwhile, the subsidiary event of the I&M Bank Serena 63 Series produced a closely contested finish, with Eric Miller taking the overall honours with 42 points. Abel Okuna was runner-up on 41 points on countback, ahead of Patrick Sumata, who finished second runner-up on the same score. Wycliff Onduso claimed third runner-up on 40 points on countback, while Edward Okech, Timothy Musiime and Andrew Bugembe shared the fourth runner-up position on 40 points.
Prosscovia Namulindwa won Nearest to Pin Ladies while Gloria Mbaguta and Claver Serumaga claimed the Longest Drive honours respectively.
The 2026 I&M Bank Serena 63 Series will return on November 14 for its third quarterly event, which will also serve as the season grand finale.
