Like earlier promised, Airtel-Uganda has started giving out football equipment to different schools across the country as part of this year’s Airtel Rising Stars (ARS) tournament. On Tuesday, the leading telecommunications company donated football resources like balls, goal posts and nets to schools from Kampala region, a day after the region finalized their 2019 ARS qualifiers championship with Kawempe Muslim wining both Girls and Boys titles. The five schools that benefited include; Nambweru, Lubiri High and St Andrew-Kagwa from Kawala. Faith Fiona Bugonzi, the Airtel-Uganda Public relations officer (PRO) says that the move is to promote the game of football at the grass root where the stars are born. “We shall give football resources to five schools in every Fufa region around the country. We believe this will not only boost the Airtel Rising Stars U17 program but also, continue promote football in the country,” she noted. Meanwhile, the ARS Buganda region qualifiers championship kicks off this Friday till Sunday in Bukalasa-Luwero. 16 Boys teams in four groups will battle for Shs1.5m prize money for the regional winner while the runners up have Shs1m at stake. The best players will be selected to represent the region at the national finals due September 7 in Kampala where the national winner will have improved Shs7m and runners up Shs5m.
