Onduparaka 0(4) 0(3) Tooro United

Wakiso Giants FC host defending champions KCCA FC in the Pilsner Super 8 tournament this Tuesday at their new home, Wakisha resource center in Wakiso district. It will be the first competitive match the newly promoted side hosts from the venue since its approval by FUFA to host matches.

Purple Sharks Head coach Kefa Kisala says that the boys are ready for the task. “We are set for the game. KCCA is an organized side but we have set up a good side to compete,” noted Kisala.

Goal keeper Yasin Mugabi returns from national duty while Ayub Kisalita and Aggrey Madoi are sidelined. KCCA FC beat Onduparaka at the final last year to win the inaugural title and will be more motivated as they start title defense.

KCCA are fresh from winning the 2019 Cecafa Kagame cup title in Rwanda after 41 years. Manager Mike Mutebi believes his side has better players but knows that it will not be an easy task against Wakiso Giants.

“We are going to use the game as a precursor ahead of our forthcoming CAF Champions league away fixture. We are going to compete but also play good football,” noted Mutebi, who is not worried of center back Denis Awany’s void left after the center back joining Israel’s Ashadod FC.

“Of course we have let some players; they would add experience but remember, we went with these kids and won the Cecafa cup and so, they same kids can execute other duties,” added Mutebi, whose side faces Africa Stars of Namibia this Saturday, August 10 in the preliminary stage of CAF Champions league.

Julius Poloto is returning from a long injury lay off but the fixture comes too soon for him while new signing Erisa Sekisambu will not make the match day squad. It is the third time the two sides face off in a competitive match with KCCA wining once (2-0) and drawing the other (1-1).

The winner today faces Onduparaka FC at the semi finals after the Caterpillars ejected of Tooro United on Sunday 4-3 in penalties following a barren normal time stalemate.

The loser will face Tooro United in the classification game. KCCA released Musa Esenu and Muwadda Mawejje after managing only 3 and 13 games last season while Isaac Kirabira’s contract was not renewed.

The club also loaned goal keeper Tom Ikara to Mbarara City, defender Walter Ochora to BUL, defender Muwanga Bernard to Proline and goal keeper Hassan Matovu’s loan stay at Proline was extended till the end of 2019/20 season.

Simon Sserunkuma signed a two year deal from Tooro United while center backs John Revita and Henry Katongole are close to finalising their moves to the reigning Uganda premier league champions from Express FC and Vipers SC respectively champions.

Wakiso Giants, meanwhile signed former KCCA FC forward Geoffrey Sserunkuma, Hassan Ssenyonjo, Simon Namwanja, Muwadda Mawejje, Derrick Emukule and Duncan Sseninde.
