Angels Tackle Key Issues In Inaugural Newsletter
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Top tier women’s basketball outfit Angels recently released their inaugural newsletter dubbed ‘Angels Pinboard,’ a document they intend to make a biannual issue.

The seven page document covers key issues notably the current halt of competitive play (due to Covid-19) that has seen many athletes left ‘idle’ with government yet to loosen the noose on gatherings and crowd pulling avenues like; sports events,
places of worship and schools.

Titled, “Impact of Covid-19 pandemic”, the newsletter brings updates from the club’s activities happening throughout the year (both on and off court), formal introduction to the club, re-echoing of vision, journey and milestones to date.

The newsletter also explores the Impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on club activities and the innovations the club has developed to withstand to the current situation.

“This pandemic may have changed the way we have to live and play, but not the focus on our vision,” Susan Nasweri Ag. Director Admin/Team Manager noted.

The newsletter also tackles tough decisions that were made by FUBA (Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations) who announced that two regional competitions that should have been hosted by Uganda had been put on hold as a result of the pandemic; the Zone 5 U18 originally scheduled for June and the Zone V Women’s Club Championship scheduled for October 2020.

National leagues in all divisions were also cancelled due to the current situation.
In the first half of the year, Angels did the following; conducted community outreach in Arua, conducted grassroots development project in Kibuli, Kampala, held a pre-season training camp in Kamengo, held a staff and player induction and during the lockdown days, the club was engaged in different productive webinars.

Still in the first half of the year, the club’s dugout including coaches Tonny Drileba, Emmanuel Ateng, and Noel Kamugisha; and Technical Director Lawrence Mutyaba successfully completed the FIBA level 1 coaching course.

Albeit the lockdown, the players have been engaged in individual training hoping that one day competitive play will return.
