Malawi 1-0 Uganda

The Uganda Cranes were denied a chance of featuring at the 2021 AFCON finals in Cameroon as they lost 2-1 against Malawi on Monday, March 29.

Richard Mbulu scored the only goal of the contest, heading home from a fine cross on 15 minutes.

Uganda once again looked blunt in attack as they failed to sustain meaningful pressure on the Malawi goal to force a much-desired draw.

Forward Emmanuel Okwi came closest to scoring for the Cranes but his effort, at the end of the first half, could only find the framework.

Despite making several substitutions that saw the likes of Allan Okello, Daniel Isiagi and Gavin Kizito come on, nothing could deter the Malawi Flames from the three points they deservedly won on the day.

The Cranes who failed to win or score a goal in their final three qualifying games now bow out as they finish third in group B behind Burkina Faso and Malawi.

They end the campaign on 8 points after winning twice, drawing two and losing as many in their six games.

For Malawi, they reach the finals for the first time since 2010 and only their third appearance at Africa’s football showpiece.
