Uganda’s finest sporting performers for the month of June were recognised on Tuesday as the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards celebrated excellence across football, boxing, rugby and motorsport.
The ceremony, held at Nanjing Restaurant in Kololo, brought together sports personalities and stakeholders, including Fortebet Brand Ambassador Alex Muhangi, Jude Colour Solutions representative Erone Nandawula and Real Stars Sports Agency CEO Isaac Mukasa.
Four athletes emerged as the month’s standout performers, with Allan Okello claiming the football accolade, Ukasha Matovu taking boxing honours, Hassan Alwi winning in motorsport and Yassin Wasswa earning the rugby award.
Uganda Cranes midfielder Allan Okello continued his impressive run by securing the football award after playing a pivotal role in Young Africans SC’s successful Tanzanian Premier League campaign.
The attacking midfielder helped Yanga lift a fourth consecutive league title, ending his debut league season with 14 goals. His June performances included a hat-trick and an assist in the title-clinching victory, earning him a second straight Fortebet Real Stars monthly award.
Okello was unable to attend the ceremony because of family commitments in Lira, with a representative receiving the accolade on his behalf.
Boxer Ukasha Matovu was recognised after producing a commanding performance against Isaac Kasasa of Katabi Boxing Club, winning their light middleweight contest via referee stoppage in the second round.
His victory saw him overcome fellow nominees Emily Nakalema and Kato Kazibwe for the June boxing award.
Receiving the recognition, Matovu expressed confidence that more success lies ahead.
“Prepare many more awards because I am ready to win them,” he said.
The motorsport award went to Hassan Alwi following an impressive display at the Masaka Rally.
Together with veteran navigator Musa Nsubuga, Alwi delivered a dominant performance to secure victory, finishing ahead of fellow nominees Duncan Mubiru and Jonas Kasiime.
Buffaloes Rugby Club’s Yassin Wasswa walked away with the rugby honour after delivering the decisive penalty that secured the Uganda Rugby Premiership title against Pirates Rugby Club.
His match-winning contribution earned him the monthly award ahead of Alex Aturinda and Fat Moses.
Beyond celebrating current sporting excellence, the awards ceremony also honoured the fallen rugby star Sydney Gongodyo for his lasting contribution to Ugandan sport.
Real Stars Sports Agency CEO Isaac Mukasa called for the preservation of Gongodyo’s legacy, while representatives from Pirates Rugby Club thanked the organisers for recognising his impact on the country’s sporting landscape.
Fortebet was represented by their ambassador Alex Muhangi.
The Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards, organised in partnership with Jude Colour Solutions, continue to recognise Uganda’s best-performing athletes every month, celebrating excellence across different sporting disciplines while inspiring the next generation of sports stars.
