April event of Katogo Invitational Golf Series ushers in I&M Bank
Katogo Invitational Golf Series Tournament Director Paul Kaheru says that 116 players showed up for the April event that happened on Saturday at Entebbe Club. 54 of these golfers played under the main category while the rest were guest players.
The April event which was the second leg of this year’s Katogo Invitational Golf Series was played under ‘call your shots’ format and it ushered in I&M Bank as its main sponsor. I&M Bank who are the leading banking and insurance group in Eastern Africa announced their partnership with the series earlier this month.
Sam Ntulume who is the Acting Managing Director at I&M Bank Uganda attended the 19th hole experience of the April event and was impressed with the turn up. He added that they delight in partnering with golf events and the Katogo Invitational Golf Series is not the first.
“Golf is a good reminder of how we are supposed to maintain our environment, I like the green that I see here but more especially the green on the 18 holes and the eco-system around, and basically this is how civilization should look like; green and calm,” Ntulume said adding that he’s reminded of the people who contribute a lot to the game for example the players, caddies, course maintainers and designers and the like.
“As I&M Bank our involvement with golf goes a long way and in Kenya where our head quarters is, our sister company there is known for organizing the I&M Bank Corporate Golf Tournament and this is a culture we intend to embrace and nurture in this country. Hopefully one day we can raise our own legend who can put us on the global golf map,” Ntulume added noting that golf is not just about winning and losing but it revolves around sportsmanship, integrity and respect for each other.
Eng. Jacob Byamukama who is the Chairperson Entebbe Club said that the Katogo Invitational Golf Series has rejuvenated the club especially the bar section. He added that the club is undergoing a facelift in various areas and with the recent partners on board, the facility will get better.
Hannington Mpiima who is the Katogo Golf Captain noted that Entebbe Club is good at growing together with brands and I&M Bank is in the right place. After crediting the event for reviving the clubs 19th hole experience, he added that membership for the series is still open but stakeholders are currently selective because of the number of applications being received.
However, Joseph Bogera emerged Group A winner with 71 with John Basabose coming second with 73.
Kenneth Kiddu was Group B winner with 71 while Moses Ssebugwawo was runner up with just a shot behind.
Group C was won by Lony Dickinson Akena who shot 74. Runner up was Richard Mugisha with 77.
Diana Nabukenya was lady winner with 73 whilst runner up was Rukia Nalwoga with 75.
Apollo Segawa was men’s guest winner with 63 whilst Bernard Aritua was second with 69. Jovia Tugume was ladies guest winner with 78.
The 19th hole experience was headlined by the Janzi Band who entertained revellers throughout the night.
Katogo Invitational Golf Series is categorised into four events – Daytona held in the first quarter, followed by Call your shots in the second quarter, Me too in the third quarter and Oh Gosh in the last quarter of the year.
The quarterly series that started on 14 January 2023 will run up to 9 December 2023. The next event is scheduled for August.
