Sweden’s pole vault sensation Armand “Mondo” Duplantis soared to new heights on Sunday, clearing 6.28 metres to break his own world record for the 12th time during the BAUHAUS-galan Diamond League event at Stockholm’s Olympic Stadium.
The 25-year-old two-time Olympic and world champion thrilled a raucous home crowd by surpassing his previous global best of 6.26m, which he set earlier this year at the All-Star Perche meet in Clermont-Ferrand, France. This time, Duplantis needed only one attempt to conquer 6.28 metres, making the historic leap look almost effortless under ideal conditions.
With the crowd clapping and cheering in unison from the moment his name was announced, Duplantis fed off the electric atmosphere, cruising through earlier heights before raising the bar — literally and figuratively.
Australian Kurtis Marschall provided some early competition, managing 5.90m, but three failed efforts at six metres cleared the stage for Duplantis. Once the bar was set at the record-breaking height, all eyes turned to the Swedish star, who delivered in spectacular style.
After landing safely in the pit, Duplantis sprinted off the mat and tore off his singlet in celebration, embracing his partner and family as the stadium erupted in jubilation — a moment made even more special by being his first world record achieved on Swedish soil.
Meanwhile, in the women’s 400m hurdles, Dutch runner Femke Bol stormed to victory in a season-best time of 52.11 seconds. She held off American Dalilah Muhammad, who finished second, eight-tenths of a second behind.
The BAUHAUS-galan meet continues to prove a thrilling stage for athletic excellence — and for Duplantis, another reminder that the sky, indeed, may not be the limit.
