Uganda’s basketball star Arthur Kaluma is one step closer to achieving his NBA dream.
After a series of promising performances with the Los Angeles Lakers in the NBA Summer League, Kaluma has signed an Exhibit 10 contract with the franchise. The deal, a one-year, non-guaranteed agreement for the league minimum, grants the senior guard a spot in the Lakers’ upcoming training camp, where he will compete for a place on the regular-season roster.
Kaluma’s signing was officially announced by the Lakers on July 26, alongside those of fellow college veterans RJ Davis (North Carolina), Eric Dixon (Villanova), and Augustas Marčiulionis (St. Mary’s). All four players completed full collegiate careers, bringing experience and maturity to a Lakers squad seeking depth and versatility.
In four Summer League appearances — split between San Francisco and Las Vegas — Kaluma impressed with his athleticism and two-way potential. His standout game came on July 14 at the Thomas and Mack Center, where he scored 12 points in 17 minutes against the New Orleans Pelicans. He shot an efficient 5-of-8 from the floor, including 2-of-4 from three-point range, and led all scorers with eight points in the first quarter alone.
Standing 6-foot-7 and weighing 223 pounds, Kaluma showcased the kind of 3-and-D skill set that modern NBA teams covet. His ability to defend multiple positions, combined with his developing offensive game, made him a compelling prospect for the Lakers’ development staff.
Kaluma graduated from the University of Texas in Spring 2025, capping off his collegiate journey with the Longhorns after earlier stints at Creighton and Kansas State. Over 134 games — starting 131 — he averaged 12.2 points and 6.5 rebounds per game, establishing himself as a reliable contributor at every stop.
Now, with the Exhibit 10 deal in hand, Kaluma has an opportunity to prove himself once again — this time in the high-stakes environment of an NBA training camp.
If he makes a strong impression, he could earn a coveted spot on the Lakers’ regular-season roster or be signed to the team’s G League affiliate, with the potential for a midseason call-up.
Either way, Arthur Kaluma’s NBA journey is off to a promising start.
