As part of the grassroots-to-global model, based on progressive cricket tournaments aimed at identification, acceleration, and enrichment of worthy talented individuals in designated regions, Batball Uganda limited, Uganda cricket Association, MCC Foundation and Cricket Without Boundaries have announced the third regional tournament in Gulu in line to achieve the same goal.
The Batball Open North edition, first of its kind, will run over the weekend of 4th-5th Day of March, 2023 with 9 matches played at St. Joseph’s College Layibi Oval and 4 teams (boys) constituting top young cricketing talent in the region will compete to find a winner who will join other regional champions for Batball X later this year.
The four teams; Agak, Tula, Okwik and Ocwak have been derived from common bird species in Northern Uganda to enable the locals relate and identify them in a proper way and the games will be played in a shorter format called T10(10 overs aside).
“These tournaments will not be a one time show, rather events that will go on to happen every year, enabling players to compete at higher levels and earn a chance to represent their region in Batball X, National teams as they get prepared to take on cricket as profession,” Batball Uganda noted via their website.
This tournament comes at a point when Uganda is preparing for the U-19 Men’s World Cup qualifiers scheduled for July this year, and performers during Batball Open tournaments could earn spots in the Squad as they continue to showcase their cricket talent to the whole world.
