Rugby Premier League side Stanbic Black Pirates RFC has handed out relief items to its players in a bid to cushion them from the harsh impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic. The exercise took place on Sunday at the teams home ground, Kings Park in Bweyogerere.

The items are majorly food stuffs and other household items and they were handed over to the players by the team’s Executive Committee.

Present at the handover ceremony was the Vice Chairman Samuel Ocanya, Treasurer Peter Laboke, Director of Rugby Robert Musinguzi, Club Captain Dennis Etuket, Age Grade and Rugby Development officer Byron Okuba, players from the senior team (Pirates) and junior team, Sailors.

“It is a privilege to have met our players after a long rugby break to give them support. We have worked together with the fans to mobilize resources for our players,” Ocanya said.

“Our players are grown from all calibers. Some are students who live at home and others are hustling by themselves so we thought it wise to support them with basic items like posho, rice and soap,” Ocanya added.

A total of 95 players received support on Sunday.

According to the club, the ladies side Black Pearls will also receive relief support on a day to be communicated.
