Uganda has been selected to host the CAF African Football CECAFA Zonal Qualifiers for the 2026 edition, marking another milestone for the country’s growing influence in regional football.
According to Jean Sseninde, the Interim Executive Director of the Council of East and Central Africa Football Associations (CECAFA), the tournament has been officially moved from Ethiopia to Uganda.
“We are happy to announce that the regional qualifiers for the CECAFA Zone will now be hosted by Uganda from December 6–9, 2025. This is a very important competition to have the youngsters compete at the zonal level for both boys and girls, and we thank Uganda for accepting to host the tournament,” Sseninde said.
A total of ten boys’ teams and eight girls’ teams have already confirmed participation in the qualifiers, which will serve as a platform for identifying future stars of African football.
The draw for the competition is scheduled to take place on November 10th at the FUFA Studio in Mengo, Kampala.
The event will bring together the region’s best young talent, further cementing Uganda’s role as a leading football hub in East and Central Africa.
