Cricket Uganda strengthens match official capacity with new scorers training

Cricket Uganda has conducted a comprehensive Scorers Training Course designed to enhance the capacity and professionalism of match officials across the country. The one-day programme brought together twenty participants from several regions, reflecting the sport’s growing reach and the rising demand for qualified scorers.

Fourteen trainees came from the Kampala Metropolitan area, while others travelled from Gulu, Lira, Kumi, and Masindi. The diverse attendance underscored Cricket Uganda’s nationwide focus on technical development.

During the course, participants were introduced to both traditional book scoring and modern digital scoring systems. This dual training approach ensures scorers are equipped to handle a wide range of matches, from local league fixtures to larger tournaments that require precise real time data management.

The facilitators guided trainees through theoretical lessons as well as hands on practical sessions, providing a complete overview of scoring procedures. The course also emphasized the skills needed to support both domestic and international tournaments, preparing participants for future assignments where accurate scoring is essential.

To further boost efficiency and consistency, all scorers who completed the training will receive official accounts for online scoring. This will enable them to seamlessly record match data in upcoming competitions while maintaining national standards of reporting.

Cricket Uganda’s Development Manager, Davis Turinawe, who also heads the Education Department, commended the trainees for embracing both traditional and modern tools of the game. He noted that the new scorers will help bridge gaps in electronic and manual scoring, strengthening the country’s technical backbone.
