Today, Uganda’s cricket scene is abuzz as they gear up for their maiden appearance at the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. The anticipation reaches a fever pitch as the nation eagerly awaits the debut of their cricketing heroes on the global stage. With the squad announcement made today, excitement and pride surge through the hearts of fans and players alike, with the global showpiece less than a month away in West Indies and USA.
Having impressed with victories over Zimbabwe and dominating the African qualifiers, the Cricket Cranes now set their sights on Group C, where they’ll face formidable opponents like co-hosts West Indies, New Zealand, Papua New Guinea, and Afghanistan.
Brian Masaba leads the team into uncharted territory, supported by seasoned players like Riazat Ali Shah and the remarkable Frank Nsubuga, whose cricket journey spans over two decades. Nsubuga’s selection is a testament to his lifelong dedication to the sport, from his debut in 1997 to his recent standout performances, including a memorable catch against Kenya in 2022.
Joining the ranks is spin-bowling sensation Alpesh Ramjani, fresh off his nomination for the ICC Men’s T20I Cricketer of the Year in 2023.
With a lineup boasting talents like Henry Ssenyondo and Juma Miyaji, who gained valuable experience in the U19 World Cup, Uganda is poised to make waves in Group C, where they’ll face off against cricket powerhouses like Afghanistan and New Zealand.

While it marks Uganda’s first senior men’s World Cup appearance, the nation’s cricket history dates back to the 1975 Cricket World Cup, where Samuel Walusimbi represented Uganda in the now-defunct East Africa team.
Excitement is palpable as Uganda bowls off their campaign on June 3 against Afghanistan in Guyana.
