The grand finale is now set against the impressive backdrop of the renowned IPRC Stadium in Kigali, Rwanda, marking the first time the league ventures across borders for the concluding match.
This departure from the customary locations of Kampala, Mbarara, and Jinja (where previous finals took place) adds an extra layer of grandeur. It not only raises the league to unprecedented heights but also establishes a benchmark for other alumni leagues to follow.
Anticipation builds as the spotlight focuses on the showdown between two formidable contenders: TY Omujuma, last season’s finalists, and the illustrious Nshera FC, boasting four-time finalists and two-time champions. The stage is set for a football spectacle that promises excitement and intensity.
On Thursday evening, all the lions league teams embarked on their journey to the Rwandan capital, arriving on Friday just in time for a friendly Golf game at 9:00 am between Ntare Rwanda Chapter and Ntare Uganda Chapter at the picturesque Kigali Golf Resort & Villas. Following this, a tour of Ntare School – Rwanda and a tree planting activity will engage the teams, providing a moment of connection with nature.
The day’s festivities will culminate with the highly anticipated NSOBA Dinner at Jalia Gardens in Kigali City, graced by the presence of the President of Rwanda, who also holds the distinguished title of senior Old boy for the school. This evening promises joy and nostalgia, creating lasting memories for all in attendance.
The pinnacle of the day on Saturday 9th , of course, is the finale match between TY Omujuma and Nshera at 3:00 pm. Before the grand finale, teams will engage in placement games, offering one last chance for competition in this exhilarating season. Additionally, two friendly games, one between Bweras – Kigali Ladies Select and Nsoba Rwanda & Nsoba Uganda, will be played after the placement games, adding extra excitement to the event.
But the action doesn’t stop there. The NLL Chess finale, traditionally played alongside the soccer fixtures, will captivate enthusiasts. Furthermore, cricket and rugby games between NSOBA Rwanda and NSOBA Uganda will unfold at the stadium’s cricket oval, showcasing a diverse array of talents.
As the day draws to a close, Maison Noire Bar & Restaurant in Kigali City will host the after party, providing the perfect setting for celebration and camaraderie among players, fans, and organizers.
