From the dusty tracks of Morogoro to the bright lights of Kololo, Uganda’s rally aces Yasin Nasser and Ali Katumba carried their continental triumph home as they headlined the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards for September. The awards sessions happened today.
Hosted at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo, the ceremony once again celebrated Uganda’s finest performers across various sports, while also paying tribute to legends whose contributions continue to inspire generations.
Nasser and Katumba, the unstoppable MOIL Rally Team duo, sealed their names in African motorsport history after clinching the 2025 African Rally Championship title in Morogoro, Tanzania. Their feat — which ended Uganda’s long wait for continental rally supremacy — earned them the month’s top honour ahead of seasoned drivers Ronald Ssebuguzi and Julius Ssemambo.
“It’s a proud moment for us and for Ugandan motorsport,” Nasser said. “Winning the African title is one thing, but being recognised at home makes it even more special.”

In football, Vipers SC defender Hillary Mukundane walked away with the top prize after his crucial away goal against Namibia’s African Stars helped the Venoms secure a 2–0 aggregate win to advance in the CAF Champions League. He beat strong competition from teammate Allan Okello and SC Villa’s Ibrahim Kasinde.
Boxing fans had their hero in Muzamir “King Kong” Kakande, who was honoured for his stunning ninth-round knockout win over Britain’s Kevin Reavell to claim the British Commonwealth Silver Super Welterweight title. Kakande, who couldn’t attend the ceremony, was represented by his wife, Aminah Kakande, who received the award on his behalf.

The event also featured a touching moment of reflection as veteran weightlifter and two-time Olympian Ali Kavuma received the Lifetime Achievement Award. In his speech, Kavuma celebrated the revival of weightlifting in Uganda and commended rising athletes like Davis Niyoyita for keeping the sport’s flame alive.
“I’m honoured to see the next generation picking up where we left off,” he said. “To the sponsors and media — your support keeps Ugandan sport growing.”
