The May 2025 edition of the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Monthly Awards has seen volleyball star Jonathan Tumukunde, boxer Willy Kyakonye, and footballer Brian Ijara walk away with top honours following their exceptional performances.
Tumukunde, playing for Sport-S, was named the volleyball winner after inspiring his side to their third consecutive league title and seventh overal, making them the most successful club in the country’s volleyball history. His efficient performance, marked by 17 points, gave him the edge over teammate Malil Gum and Aisha Kebirungi, who guided the Sport-S ladies’ team to their first-ever league title.
In boxing, Netherlands-based Willy Kyakonye emerged winner after knocking out Venezuelan Wilmer Vasquez to clinch the vacant World Boxing Federation World Heavyweight Title. The victory extended Kyakonye’s professional record to 12 wins, 10 by knockout, with no losses or draws, maintaining his unbeaten streak.
KCCA FC striker Brian Ijara was voted the football winner following an impressive month in which he scored six goals across the Uganda Premier League and Uganda Cup competitions. His goals helped KCCA reach the Uganda Cup final for a record 18th time, although they eventually lost 2-0 to Vipers SC. Ijara edged out fellow nominees Emmanuel Anyama and Yunus Sentamu, the latter having scored four goals, including one in the final.
The Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards session was graced by the awards CEO, Isaac Mukasa, Fortebet Ambassador Alex Muhangi and Jude Colour Solutions’ Henry Zimbe, among others.
