FUFA Drum 2022 | Quarterfinals – First leg

• Acholi Vs Buganda -4pm (Sunday)

All roads lead to Boma ground in Kitgum as title holders Acholi and Buganda face off in the first leg of the FUFA Drum tournament quarterfinal round on Sunday 11th September.

The much anticipated clash of titans is a major highlight on this stage and Acholi fans will be out to render massive support to their team in a move to take advantage from the first leg.

Buganda clinched the title in 2019 before COVID-19 paused sporting activities for two years.

Acholi on the other hand beat Bukedi (5-3) on penalties to win the last edition and will seek to keep their title defence on the right path.

Acholi’s Head coach Geoffrey Akena expressed confidence ahead of Sunday’s game and banks on home fans for positive results.

“We are very glad about the draw and playing against Buganda. We are Champions and this will be a classic match. Such matches are for the fans to enjoy. I call upon the fans for both teams to turn up in big numbers to watch their stars in action. The Acholi fans will not disappoint.” Akena told FUFA media after the draw last month.

Acholi province eliminated Bunyoro (1-0) on aggregate to reach this stage thanks to Hudu Mulikyi sole strike in the second round after a barren draw in Masindi.

While Buganda province saw off Ankole 2-1 on aggregate thanks to a second leg victory at Nakisunga Ssaza playground in Mukono.

“It’s a good draw for us, we are ready again for the challenge and we want to build on our success of 2018. We want to win it away from home as we believe it will be the only way to see us through to the next round.” – said Patruck Kimuli, assistant coach Buganda province.

Viane Sekajugo and Joshua Lubwama scored for Buganda province as the inaugural winners reached this stage. But Lubwama will miss this round after joining the National Beach soccer team (Sand Cranes) for residential camp in Njeru preparing for upcoming continental engagements.

To win the maiden championship, Buganda beat West Nile 2-1 aggregate. The two played to a 1-all draw at the Greenlight stadium in Arua and Buganda won 1-0 at Bishop SS playground in Mukono.
