With football taking its footing in the country, FUFA has organised a one day Women football Symposium scheduled on for this Wednesday at Kabira Country Club.
Many names are credited for the growth of women football in Uganda under different eras, but for the sport to take another direction, gatherings aimed at improving the beautiful game are always needed for better results on an off the pitch.
The FUFA Women Elite League, FUFA Women’s Cup, other FUFA organised and sanctioned competitions at Primary and Secondary schools as well as University levels have helped to tap youngsters, who end up on the National Women senior team -the Crested Cranes.
The Symposium, whose Project Manager is National team player Jean Sseninde, will attract the cream of women football in Uganda.
“We plan to hold a one day Symposium where ideas will be shared. Our theme will drive us to take the game to another level in Uganda. We hope to come up with resolutions which will be followed as we create another environment for women football in the country,” said Sseninde.
Women football stakeholders like coaches, players, former National team players, Government officials, Corporate world, FUFA Executive and the media have been invited for the Symposium.
“Football is supported by very many stakeholders. We have carefully invited the people we believe have something about women football or they can drive the game,” added Sseninde.
FUFA has also confirmed that CAF Head of Women Football Development Safia Abdel Dayem and UEFA Coaching Instructor Hesterine De Reus will grace the Symposium.
“We shall have two top officials from UEFA and CAF to share with us some of the key areas we need to improve on during the Symposium. The vast experience they have on women football will guide the various participants when they get into group discussions,” said FUFA Communications Director Ahmed Hussein.
Hesterine De Reus has been in Uganda for a week now as he helped handle the coaches who enrolled for the street children coaching course at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru.
Following the visit by the ‘UEFA ASSIST’ officials early this year, the European soccer governing body agreed with CAF that Uganda gets help in the area of women football.
The topics to be handled include; involvement of Women in Women football, Competitions and National Teams, Revenue Streams for women football and Mass football for Girls.
