Excitement is building as organizers gear up for the second edition of the FUFA TV Cup, with planning already in full swing at the FUFA Complex over the weekend.
This time around, the tournament is set to feature a whopping 52 traditional schools from across the nation – a significant increase from the modest 8 schools that participated in the inaugural edition. Last time, the spotlight shone on St. Mary’s College Kisubi, who clinched the championship with a thrilling 2-1 victory over Kira College Butiki in the finals at Muteesa I Stadium, Wankulukuku.
“We want to extend our appreciation to the schools that joined us for the inaugural edition. Starting small was key to testing the waters, but the overwhelming interest showed us it was time to expand,” remarked FUFA President, Hon. Magogo Moses Hassim, kicking off the planning meeting.
“This tournament belongs to you, and your feedback is invaluable. Let’s hear your experiences, ideas, and suggestions – together, we can make it even better,” he added, stressing the importance of input from all stakeholders.
FUFA 1st Vice President, Justus Mugisha, who also heads the Uganda Secondary Schools Sports Association (USSSA), assured participants of the association’s full support for the competition. He announced that the winners of the FUFA TV Cup would secure a direct spot in the Post Primary Finals, bypassing the usual qualification rounds.
“We’re thrilled about this initiative as USSSA. It’s an incredible opportunity for students to showcase and develop their talents. The winners of this cup will have a fast track to the big stage,” Mugisha affirmed.
Dr. Apollo Ahimbisibwe, a FUFA Excom member leading the organizing committee, expressed gratitude to all participants for their enthusiasm and promised an even more exciting second edition. Deputy CEO-Football, Decolas Kiiza, and FUFA Football Development Director, Ali Mwebe, were also present, highlighting the collective commitment to take the tournament to new heights.
