Heathens: League Win Would Change Oyet’s Career
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Heathens number 15, Joseph Oyet has neared perfection in the fullback position and after spending the previous season (2018-2019) with Warriors before returning to the  Kyadondo Rugby Club based side, the former wing proved to be the team’s fulcrum in the games played before lockdown.

While there is some uncertainty surrounding the Rugby Premier League restart due to the ban on sports since March because of the Covid-19 scare then, all signs point to games getting back in gear, possibly sometime in September this year or the like.

The Heathens are looking for their second straight league title in what will be Oyet’s first championship as the team’s main man, both in the day and during floodlights matches.

Uganda Rugby Union (URU) alternative activity calendar indicates that the league will resume even if it is as late as October.

Before sports events were called off as one of the measures to control the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic, Heathens were leading the 10-team table off 63 points, five ahead of second placed Kobs.

Oyet, also dubbed ‘Ojo’ is third joint try scorer after crossing the white wash eight times.
Having impressed with Warriors in the previous season, Oyet picked up from where he ended after rejoining Heathens.

This was witnessed in his ability to take games over and lead the team to wins time and time again.

He was able to win the games for the side even when big names like Micheal Wokorach, Aaron Ofoyrwoth were out on national duty.
Winning the league this season would be a good reward for Oyet’s individual and team success.

Oyet is a superstar prospect. This season, he has been one of the great two-way players to grace the turf. Winning a champions medal at the end of the season would change his career.

Some will say that he is not the best player on the team, that might be true but we now look at him as one of the best players in the league.
A league win will help Oyet break the ice in his career. Then he will be able to further build his legacy.
