Jinja Senior Secondary School were on Saturday crowned champions of the Skyview Boys’ Schools Cricket Week after beating Nyakasura School by 16 runs (118/10 against 102/7) in the final of the week-long tournament.
Playing at their own backyard, Jinja SS won the toss and elected to bat. They set 118/10 in 19.3/20 overs, a familiar score to them have had an unbeaten run in the regular group stage games.
Jinja SS batsman Pius Oloka almost hit a half century as he managed 47 runs off 25 balls. His tally comprised of nine boundaries (7 fours and 2 sixes). He was however bowled by Mark Ruhweza.
Jonathan Nyiiro (19 runs) and Timothy Muwangunzi (11 runs) were the other Jinja SS players to hit double figures.
However, for Nyakasura innings, it was a combined effort as five players hit double figures their chase fell short by 16 runs as Jinja SS fielded very well.
Joseph Baguma was unbeaten on the crease, posting 18 runs but off 26 balls. Matthew Musinguzi followed with 17 runs whilst Enock Kasaija (16 runs), Nathan Musulizi (12 runs) and Mark Ruhweza (12 runs) all had double figures.
However, it was Jinja SS’ Richard Sohera who stood out after picking four wickets.
Meanwhile, in the semifinals played on Saturday morning, Jinja SS beat Kololo SS by 124 runs (200/7 against 76/10) while Nyakasura beat Busoga College Mwiri by 4 wickets (127/6 against 128/6).
