Ronald Ssebuguzi and Frank Kiwalabye were the standout performers at the Fortebet Real Stars Sports Awards for July, held on Monday at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo.
Ssebuguzi, alongside co-driver Paul Musaazi, took home the motorsport award after clinching victory at the Stabex EMC Bugerere Rally, a key round in the 2024 National Rally Championship. The pair delivered a flawless performance, edging out fierce competitors including Hassan Alwi and Ponsiano “Mafu-Mafu” Lwakataka. The win cements Ssebuguzi’s strong bid for the NRC crown this season.
Lwakataka, also recognised at the ceremony, used the platform to call for increased corporate support for rallying, thanking sponsors such as Maanyi Ga Bantu, SMK Tyres, and BAM Petroleum for keeping the sport moving.
In the boxing category, Frank Kiwalabye was awarded for his emphatic third-round knockout of a Tanzanian opponent, further solidifying his status as the reigning World Boxing Union (WBU) Super Bantamweight Champion.
“I’m grateful to Fortebet, the media, and my management team. This recognition pushes me to work even harder and chase more titles,” Kiwalabye said.
The awards, organised monthly by Real Stars Sports Agency, aim to celebrate Uganda’s top-performing athletes across various disciplines. They have been running since 2018, with support from sponsors Fortebet Uganda and Jude Colour Solutions.
Also honoured during the ceremony was veteran football figure Yusuf Chuni Kyeyune, who received the Lifetime Achievement Award for his immense contribution to Ugandan football over the decades.
