In a dramatic twist under the Lugogo lights, NEC FC flipped the script on Kitara FC in a pulsating showdown that tested nerves, grit, and pure determination.
What started as a promising night for Kitara quickly morphed into a frustrating tale of missed chances and a late NEC ambush. Living Kabon gave the Royals a dream start in the 9th minute, expertly ghosting in at the far post to nod in a delicious delivery from Titus Ssematimba. It looked like Kitara had come to stamp authority.
Less than five minutes later, they responded with flair. Paul Mucureezi worked the flank like a man possessed, whipping in a cross that Marvin Kavuma brilliantly flicked into the path of Muzamiru Mutyaba, who calmly tapped home the equalizer. Game on.
Tension boiled over in the second half when NEC’s Enock Ssebagala was shown a second yellow for a reckless challenge on Jude Ssemugabi. Down to 10 men with over 35 minutes left? Most teams would fold. NEC didn’t.
Instead, they tightened the screws and played like the underdog with nothing to lose.
And just when it looked like Kitara would at least walk away with a point, NEC’s captain Marvin Kavuma rose to the occasion—literally. In the 87th minute, Emmanuel Ajo floated a cross into the box and Kavuma climbed highest to nod it past a helpless Crispus Kusiima. That was the knockout punch.
With the 2-1 win, NEC move just one point behind leaders Vipers SC, setting up a blockbuster clash next week in Kitende. Kitara remain stuck in fifth, wondering how a match that started so brightly ended in disappointment.
