Fortebet Real Stars Monthly Awards (May 2024)

Winners:

  • Football: Shadia Nabirye (Kawempe Muslim Women Football Club)
  • Netball: Fildausi Namulema (NIC Netball Club)
  • Rugby: Daniel Malcom Okello (Platinum Credit Heathens)

Shadia Nabirye of Kawempe Muslim Women Football Club was honored at the Fortebet Real Stars Awards for May 2024. The ceremony took place at Lazio Restaurant in Kololo, where Nabirye, dressed in her Kawempe Muslim SS school uniform and trademark veil, was accompanied by her head coach Ayub Khalifan Kiyingi.

Nabirye received the football accolade, which includes a plaque and a cash prize of UGX 500,000, after outshining Vipers’ captain Milton Karisa and Busoga United’s Emmanuel Ajo.

“This is humbling,” Nabirye remarked, reflecting on her contribution to Kawempe Muslim’s bronze finish at the 2024 CAF Pan African football tournament in Zanzibar. The team’s achievement also brought them a cash prize of $150,000.

“I thank the organizers, my coaches, and teammates for this award,” added Nabirye, who is a senior three student.

In rugby, Daniel Malcom Okello of Platinum Credit Heathens claimed the top honor. He surpassed competitors Emily Lekuru and Ivan Magomu.

Fildausi Namulema, a versatile player for NIC Netball Club, was recognized for her pivotal role in the team’s victory at the 2024 East African Netball Championship in Dar-es-Salaam, Tanzania, where she was also named the tournament’s Most Valuable Player (MVP). Namulema triumphed over her teammate Rachael Nanyonga and Prisons’ Christine Namulumba for the award.

“I am happy for this award. It took determination and teamwork to win the championship in Tanzania,” Namulema said. She participated in all eight of NIC’s matches in the round-robin tournament, playing a crucial role in securing NIC’s 22nd championship title.

The awards were presented by Real Stars Sports Agency executive director Isaac Mukasa, along with representatives from Fortebet and Jude Colour Solutions.
