KCCA aim to seal Uganda Cup final spot in Mbale clash against Kataka

KCCA FC will be looking to book their place in the final of the 51st edition of the Stanbic Uganda Cup as they visit FUFA Big League side Kataka FC at the Mbale City Stadium on Sunday, May 18.

KCCA FC carries a commanding 3-0 lead from the first leg played at MTN Omondi Stadium two weeks ago, putting them in prime position to reach yet another Uganda Cup final. However, head coach Jackson Magera Kaddu has urged his side to treat the second leg as a fresh challenge.

“The game will not be an easy one. Forget the first leg score; this is a whole different encounter altogether. We will go there and play for a win. We have to be alert and ready for a battle in Mbale,” said Magera.

KCCA FC will be without Hassan Muhamud, who sustained a facial injury during their derby against SC Villa, and Shafik Kwikiriza, who is ill. However, defender Fillbert Obenchan returns after serving suspension, while key forwards Derrick Nsibambi and Etienne Katenga are back in training, albeit not fully fit.

The club has netted 13 goals and conceded only two in five games during this Uganda Cup campaign. Usama Arafat and Derrick Nsibambi lead the scoring charts with three goals apiece, while Emmanuel Anyama and James Mubezi have contributed two each. Sadat Anaku, Ettiene Katenga, and Ashraf Mugume have also registered their names on the scoresheet.

KCCA FC has had a flawless run to the semifinals, defeating 403 Brigade FC, Kuluva Rainbow FC, Rwenzori Lions, and Kaaro Karungi FC en route to the clash with Kataka.

Kataka FC, meanwhile, knocked out Police FC, URA FC, Odramachaku FC, and Kisoro Young Simba in a gritty run that included back-to-back penalty shootout victories.

This season’s first leg was KCCA’s third Uganda Cup meeting with Kataka, with the Lugogo-based giants having won all previous ties – 3-0 (2025), 3-0 (2023), and 5-2 (2017).

KCCA FC, joint record holders with 10 Uganda Cup titles, are eyeing an 11th triumph and a chance to extend their rich history in Ugandan football. The winner will face Vipers SC in the final scheduled to take place on Saturday, May 31, 2025, at Kadiba Stadium in Mengo.
