KCCA FC booked their place in the 2025 Stanbic Uganda Cup final after eliminating FUFA Big League side Kataka with a 4-1 aggregate win in the semifinals.
The return leg, played in front of a passionate crowd at Mbale City Stadium, ended in a 1-1 draw—more than enough to seal the tie after KCCA’s emphatic 3-0 first-leg victory at Lugogo.
Brazilian import Joao Gabriel “Gabi” Cardoso gave the visitors an early second-half lead with a moment of brilliance in the 47th minute. The forward curled home a stunning strike past Kataka goalkeeper Ronald Nsubuga, silencing the home crowd.
Kataka, who fought bravely throughout the campaign, managed to level matters in the 66th minute through Michael Olinga. The forward latched onto a loose ball after a long clearance from Nsubuga was flicked on by Ali Sentamu, giving the hosts a consolation goal to cheer.
The result confirmed a dream final between KCCA and newly crowned StarTimes Uganda Premier League champions, Vipers SC, set for May 31st under floodlights at the newly constructed Kadiba Stadium in Lubaga.
This will be a repeat of the 2018 Uganda Cup final, where KCCA triumphed over Vipers. KCCA will be chasing their 11th Uganda Cup title, with previous wins in 1979, 1980, 1982, 1984, 1987, 1990, 1993, 2004, 2017, and 2018.
Vipers, meanwhile, will be gunning for their fourth Uganda Cup crown and aiming to complete a domestic double, having already wrapped up the league title. Their previous Uganda Cup triumphs came in 2016, 2020, and 2023.
