The Uganda Athletics Federation (UAF) has finally selected a team of five marathon runners  for the 2020 Tokyo Olympics.

The Technical Commission meeting convened in Kampala selected three men who included  2012 London Olympic Champion Stephen Kiprotich who posted 2:09:04 at the NN Mission Marathon in Enschede, Netherlands last Month, National Record holder Filex Chemonges who posted 2:09:57 during the Enschede Marathon on April 18, 2021 and Fred Musobo who posted 2:08.24 at the Xiamen Marathon on April 11, 2021.

The women picked for Tokyo comprise of Juliet Chekwel who ran 2:23:13 in Zurich Marathon on February 2, 2020 and Immaculate Chemutai who clocked 2:29:09 during the Xiamen Marathon on April 11, 2021.

The UAF Technical Commission based the Team Uganda selection on the current and season 2020 form yardstick.

The 2020 Summer Olympics, officially the Games of the XXXII Olympiad, and also known as
Tokyo 2020, is an upcoming international multi-sport event scheduled to be held from 23 July to 8 August 2021 in Tokyo, Japan.

Originally due to take place from 24 July to 9 August 2020, the event was postponed in March 2020 as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic, and will not allow international spectators. Despite being rescheduled for 2021, the event retains the Tokyo 2020 name for marketing and branding purposes. This is the first time that the Olympic Games have been postponed and rescheduled, rather than cancelled.
