Lugazi FC has finalized the transfer of forward Bashamu Mugwa from Busoga United, securing his signature on a two-year contract.
The youthful striker brings with him valuable topflight football experience, having played in the Uganda Premier League (UPL) for two seasons, where he scored eleven goals in 48 appearances for Busoga United.
Upon completing his move to Lugazi FC, Mugwa expressed his excitement about joining the team:
“Lugazi FC is a good team; they give young players the chance to grow, both individually and as footballers. That’s exactly what I need at this stage of my career.”
He added, “The team may be new to the UPL, but several players here have experience in this league, even more than I do. We know what it takes to succeed at this level, and if we unite and work together as a team, we can take Lugazi FC to unexpected heights.”
Mugwa’s football journey has seen him play for various clubs including Freedom Stars Soccer Academy in Bugiri (2016/2017), Busia Fisheries (2018/2019), Mwatate United in Kenya (2019/2020), and Luwero United (2020) before joining Busoga United.
Lugazi FC, formerly known as Kampala University FC, was founded in 2010 in the Luweero District Football Association. After winning the Zonal Mini League in the 2012/2013 season, they progressed to the Buganda Regional League. The team rebranded as Lugazi FC in 2020, and within a year, won the Buganda Regional League to advance to the FUFA Big League. Their goal is to establish themselves in the UPL and eventually compete on the continental stage, all while fostering a culture of diversity, innovation, and teamwork.
