Lunyolo Tips Female Rugby Players Amidst Sports Ban
Share on FacebookShare on Twitter

Regarding President Yoweri Museveni’s guidelines on the preventative measures meant to curb the spread of the Covid-19 pandemic notably avoiding gatherings and any crowd pulling events, all sporting events have been at a halt since March this year.

Women’s rugby activities, events and tournaments are no exception as the noose on sports and other crowd pulling events like schools, churches, bars and the like remains tight.

Women’s Representative at the Uganda Rugby Union (URU) Executive Committee – Regina Lunyolo has urged female players to keep themselves in the spirit of the game, though in self isolation.

“We (URU ladies section) are encouraging them to continue with their own work out plans,” Lunyolo said adding that; “individual training schedules are key to keep one fit and immersed in the spirit of rugby at all times.”
Lunyolo added that she has personally spoken to many players in this trying time.

“So far they are following the coaches’ guidelines on self training while staying safe in these trying moments. I know we shall bounce back stronger once the pandemic is over,” Lunyolo said.

The national women’s rugby league is one of the most affected events in the ladies section.
All other sporting events, leagues and tournaments are currently affected though sports like golf and tennis are partially active but non-competitive.

However, URU, a local rugby governing body recently unveiled a plan to resume the Rugby Premier League and Regional Leagues, plus also plans for future events.

However, a continued ban on sports activities means that the union has to make necessary adjustments though the custodians are keen on completion of the Rugby Premier League.
