Miracle’s Cherotich Looks Up To Lamunu

Unlike her new team mate Faith Phoebe Apio who looks up to Gazelles (Uganda women’s national basketball team) and JKL Lady Dolphins guard and skipper, Flavia Oketcho alias Flirsh, Miracle Eaglets new forward Lilian Sarah Cherotich instead sees Claire Lamunu as her hoops role model.

Cherotich, a Makerere University Business School (MUBS) student who played for Javon Lady Phenoms last season joined Miracle Eaglets, a Division 1 women’s basketball outfit a few days ago (last week) as the club’s second signing.

Cherotich has revealed that she idolizes Gazelles and Kouvottaret Women’s Basketball (Finland) power forward/center, Claire Lamunu.

“She started from a humble background and where she is now (Kouvottaret, Finland), it is very incredible, that is why anyone can look up to her. I am motivated to work hard and one day even go beyond her level,” Cherotich told the club’s YouTube Channel (Miracle Basketball Ug).

Ahead of the new season, Cherotich who is known for her defensive skills notably blocking has promised to help the team climb the final ladder to the women’s top tier division (Women’s National Basketball League) once the new season tips off early next year.

“I hope that we win the women’s Division 1 title this coming season. Fans should expect more from the team. We are going to give our best. We have to focus on team work and effective communication,” Cherotich added.

Cherotich also narrated that her switch to Miracle is mainly as a need to change and try out new things and opportunities.

“Change is generally good for everybody. My journey has also been good and I am hoping to achieve more with Miracle Basketball,” Cherotich who started her basketball journey were back in 2011 at Seroma Christian School (S.2) added.

This year’s domestic basketball activities were recently cancelled by FUBA (Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations) due to a continued ban on sports activities as a Covid-19 preventive measure by government. However, clubs like Miracle Eaglets are still securing new charges for the upcoming season, ready to swing back to the court once it is time to do so.
