In a thrilling top-of-the-table clash in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League, Ashraf Mugume’s last-minute strike salvaged a point for KCCA FC, holding Vipers SC to a 1-1 draw at St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Saturday.
The result keeps KCCA at the top of the league table with 18 points, one point ahead of Vipers, with both teams having played eight matches.
The game started with Vipers on the front foot, and their efforts paid off just before halftime. Milton Karisa opened the scoring for the home side, heading in Derrick Ndahiro’s cross to give Vipers a 1-0 lead.
KCCA, coming off a dominant 5-0 victory over UPDF, pushed back after the break with Allan Okello and Sadat Anaku leading the charge.
Just when it looked like Vipers would hold on for the win, KCCA found a lifeline in added time. Joel Sserunjogi delivered a precise pass that found Mugume on the edge of the penalty area.
With Vipers defenders closing in, Mugume executed a brilliant first touch and lobbed the ball over goalkeeper Denis Kiggundu, setting off celebrations from the KCCA supporters.
In other league action, Maroons FC defeated URA 2-1 in Luzira. Mujahid Ogama scored early for Maroons, and Junior Omirambe added a second from the penalty spot in the 62nd minute.
Although Bruno Bunyaga pulled one back for URA shortly after, Maroons held on to secure the win, moving up to 11th place with nine points, while URA stayed in ninth with 11 points.
The league standings remain competitive, with NEC FC, Express FC, and UPDF FC close behind the top two teams. The action continues as teams battle for dominance in the 2024/2025 season of the Uganda Premier League.
