KCCA FC Manager Mike Mutebi was not surprised that his team made their way to the 2019 Cecafa Kagame Cup going on in Rwanda courtesy of young players.

The 13-time Uganda champions beat Zambia’s Green Eagles 4-3 on Friday at the Kigali stadium, Nyamirambo to storm the tournament’s final for the first time since 1978.

Allan okello opened the scoring in the 2nd minute before Amity Shamende leveled matters after 35 minutes.

Shamende doubled the lead seven minutes into the break. In the 79th minute, Okello was served by Sadam Juma to complete his brace and force the game into extra time after a 2-2 normal time stalemate.

Mike Mutyaba gave KCCA lead with a thunderous shot off Okello assist before newly academy graduate Sadat Anaku sealed KCCA FC win with the fourth and his second of the campaign in the 101th minute.

Chola scored Green Eagles’ third in the last two minutes as the Ugandan representatives secured a nail biting victory.

“I was not surprised by the performance put up by these young players. They have been prepared and now take the responsibility. Like I said, we want to win the title but want to win it beautifully. The boys exhibited great character even when they fell behind and if they show the same in the final, we shall win the title,” noted Mutebi, who is in search of his first international title.

KCCA lost 1-0 to Gor Mahia the last time they played in the final, a year after they defeated Tanzania side Simba SC to claim their only title.

KCCA play defending champions Azam FC in the final on Sunday. The winner of the annual club regional tournament which is mainly financed by Rwandan President Paul Kagame will be crowned champion with prize money worth $30,000 , while runners up will receive $20,000 and $10,000 respectively.
