Uganda Crested Cranes opened their 2019 CECAFA Women Challenge Cup with a huge 13-0 victory over Djibouti on Sunday at Chamazi Complex in Tanzania.

Kawempe Muslim Ladies WFC forward Juliet Nalukenge grabbed a double brace (x5 goals), UCU Lady Cardinals Hasifah Nassuna grabbed a hat trick just as Fazilah Ikwaput of Lady Doves while midfielders Fauzia Najjemba and Amina Nababi added once as Uganda showed intent of winning the competition for the first time.

Nalukenge was the skipper as Uganda U17 side won the inaugural COSAFA Cup championship in South Africa this year and was also the tournament top scorer with 18 goals.

The tournament founded in 1986 went dormant for 30 years until Uganda hosted it in 2016. Tanzania won the last two editions in 2016 and 2018 respectively while Uganda Crested Cranes have only managed Silver in Rwanda last year.

The Crested Cranes had a 10-day training camp at the FUFA Technical Centre, Njeru and head coach Faridah is buoyed her squad will make wonders. In the last practice match in Njeru against UCU, Juliet Nalukenge bagged a hat-trick whilst Hasifah Nassuna and Fazila Ikwaput scored one each.
