KCCA Leopards and City Oilers were the winners in the women’s and men’s divisions (respectively) of the Tusker Lite National Basketball League (NBL) 2022 season during the Wednesday, 30th March matches held at the MTN Arena, Lugogo in Kampala.

KCCA had easy work to do against a struggling A1 Challenge side condemning them to a 75-30 whooping in the opening match of the evening whilst men’s title holders City Oilers overcame a hard fighting UPDF Tomahawks side posting a 49-65 victory in the other game.

For KCCA, Catherine Haruri led the scoring posting 13 points, 5 rebounds and 1 assist. Susan Rebecca Aanyu had 10 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist whilst Alicia Wasagali managed 8 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists.

A1 Challenge struggled on the court and none of the players managed double figures but Sharua Nakirya managed 9 points, 4 rebounds and 2 assists in a losing effort.

In the men’s game, center Ivan Lumanyika led City Oilers with 14 points, 17 rebounds and 4 assists. Ruai Luak put up a good show shooting 15 points, 3 rebounds and 2 assists whilst Ceasar Kizito returned 11 points, 3 rebounds and 1 assist. Other players impressed as well.

For UPDF who are known to be a more physical side, David Okello and Edrine Walujjo both managed 10 points with the former adding 6 rebounds and 2 assists whilst the latter added 4 rebounds.

The midweek action witnessed a new development in the local hoops game as FUBA and league title sponsor Tusker Lite waived an entry fee for ladies. This will be the tradition for the rest of the regular season with every Wednesday now earmarked as “Ladies Night.”

Action resumes this weekend from Friday to Sunday with lots of games on the card as the season takes shape.
