The third edition of the CAVB Zone V Club Championship is set to bring together a record number of participants from across the region, with over 20 teams confirming their participation.

Scheduled to take place from February 26 to March 4, 2025, the event will be hosted at the Lugogo Indoor Stadium and Ok’la Sports Arena in Kampala, Uganda.

Zone V comprises 12 countries, including Burundi, Egypt, South Sudan, Sudan, Ethiopia, Djibouti, Eritrea, Somalia, Rwanda, Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The confirmed teams include men’s and women’s clubs from Burundi, Kenya, Rwanda, South Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. Notable defending champions such as Rwanda National Police (men) and Kenya Pipeline Company (women) will headline the event.

Joseph Odong, the Chairman of the Local Organizing Committee, expressed gratitude to the Ugandan government and the National Council of Sports (NCS) for their support. “We are ready to give fans a memorable experience during the six-day event,” Odong stated.

This will mark the first major volleyball championship in Kampala since Uganda Volleyball Federation President Sadik Nasiwu was voted CAVB Zone V October 2024.

Speaking on the preparations, Nasiwu emphasized the event’s inclusivity and affordability. “Our target is to host a cost-friendly event for the clubs and give maximum exposure to our athletes,” he noted.

Fans can expect a dynamic, non-stop, double-gender tournament running daily from 10 a.m. to midnight.

The competition also aims to leave a legacy by involving national referees as scorers and court managers. “Officiation will be handled by international referees,” explained Innocent Komakech, the Referee Delegate.
